As busy parents, it's often hard with the day to day chores and running the kids here, there and everywhere, to develop and nurture the friendships that we encourage our own kids to develop. When your kids take up so much of your time that you barely have time for yourself - how do you build those ties that are so vital to our growth as a person?
Someone told me once, "A friend helps your move......a TRUE friend helps you move the body". That is SO true - lol.
Once in a while, someone truly special comes along and touches us in a way so unique that it forever enriches our lives and makes us a better person for knowing that person. These are the ones we need to hang on to. We need to savagely embrace these people and hold them close...for they're more precious than gold.
There is just such a person in my life. The way this person has touched my life, I know that I will forever reap the benefits of knowing them. Not only would this person help me move the body........they'd bring the shovels and beer. You know who you are......know that you've touched my life and made it better. You're my best friend....my confidant...the one I tell my secrets to.....
So when you're out there encouraging your kids to meet new people and make new friends.....remember to stop once in a while and take your own advise. A new friend might be waiting just around the corner and when you meet them and they enrich your life...embrace that friendship and hold on to it as tightly as you can........I know, that just like mine, your life will be better for having these people as part of them.
To my best friend out there......know that you're my safe harbor in the storm and I love you!!!

Meet My Boys
BB turned 11 in July and is now in the 6th grade. It seems like just yesterday that he came into this world kicking and screaming.....Well he's still kicking and screaming but his heart is pure gold.
LB turned 2 in June. Go ahead...you can say it...."WOW!! that's a large age span." Yes...almost 9 years. We're just starting into the "terrible two's" and LB is definitely keeping me on my toes. His favorite phrase at the moment happens to be "Why not?", and as much as I hate to admit - mine has become "because I said".
LB thinks his big brother is just "IT". Anything that BB does....well LB thinks he can do it to or at least wants to try to do it....which can be exasperating when this mommy had to chase him down on the football field during tryouts. I never could get him to understand that he's just to little to play with the big boys.
Well these are my boys.........the joy of my life........the reason I get out of bed every morning........although at times I'd like nothing better than to turn the alarm off, pull the covers back over my head and grab a few more minutes of sleep.
And speaking of sleep......................my little gremlin is no longer napping so off I go.............
Burst Bubble
O.K. all you stay at home parents out there.....raise your hand if you live for nap time. Don't be hesitant....I know you all want to raise those hands, hell I'm waving mine in the air right now!!
YES!! Just like most of you when my 11 year old packed up his book bag and headed back to school, I had a marvelous delusion about finally having a little free time when my two year old took his nap. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!! On the days that I can get my little one to go down for his nap.......well our morning usually consisted of me chasing him from room to room around our house...picking up all the stuff he decided to drag out and practice his throwing with. When I'm not picking up stuff....I'm trying to rescue the cat from his chubby little fingers that love to give him (the cat) hugs (usually by wrapping his arm securely around the poor kitty's neck).....hence the "rescue". And that is the days when we DO have a nap - lol.........and we really don't need to go into the days when we DON'T have a nap - do we?????
So all that wonderful time that I invisioned myself with during naps??? Well it's gone to that final resting place deep in fantasy land. My bubble has been burst by the sharp pin of reality.
I know...you're asking yourself....well what does Nap Time Mommy actually do when her little angel is snug as a bug in his bed during naps??? I spend nap time finally getting to do all the things I didn't get to during the morning - you know - laundry, dishes.....blah blah blah. Do we really need to go there??
Having said all that - guess what time it is? You guessed it NAP TIME.........so with that...this mommy is off to TRY - and try being the optimal word here - to get my little funny face down for his nap. Maybe today he'll sleep longer than 30 mins - lol.
